Book Illustration
Storytelling and illustration go hand in hand for me—sometimes the words come first, sometimes the art leads the way. I’ve illustrated several of my own short stories, including The Minotaur, a sci-fi horror tale, and My Little Bluebird, a piece of literary fiction. Then there’s Whitfield Fahrenheit, the Minstrel of the Apocalypse, wandering a broken world with a revolver and a guitar, his story unfolding one note at a time. Whether it’s horror, fiction, or something in between, I love bringing these worlds to life—one line, one page, one image at a time.
Illustrating Les Fables
Back in 2005, I had the chance to illustrate Les Fables, a horror anthology written by Taylor Kingsbury. The book was a true collaboration—Taylor would send me stories, I’d bring them to life in pen and ink, and sometimes I’d throw a story idea his way for him to write. The most rewarding part? Holding the finished, self-published book in my hands. The most challenging? The book design—months of work and a crash course in InDesign. One of my favorite illustrations was from 24 Hours in the Life of Joshua Keller—simple, yet effective. As a final touch, instead of a traditional biography, we wrote mock newspaper obituaries for ourselves. Because why not?
